Travel with Grayson to Tanzania Once again I have the pleasure of being able to invite you to participate in a very unique and exciting adventure. I would like to invite you to travel with me to Tanzania, East Africa on July 24 to August 3.
This will be my fifth visit to this amazing country, and again I am being invited to bring along my friends from North America.
Unlike the trips we make to Europe, traveling to Africa is a bit different. For one thing, we will not be staying in hotels – there are no Hiltons or Marriotts in Tanzania. As I always write in my letters of invitation, Tanzania is a relatively poor country in terms of material wealth yet one of the richest places I have ever been in terms of warmth, spirit, and hospitality. We will stay in mostly retreat houses and hostels. They will be clean and comfortable. But if you are more comfortable staying in more traditional, 4 star hotels, this would not be the trip for you.
Unlike previous visits to Africa, we do not have a set itinerary as of yet. We are still working out the details. But I can assure you that we will be participating in many wonderful activities. For sure we will visit the animal reserves where we will get an up close and personal look at the animals in their natural habitat. As I have said before, you have never seen a lion or an elephant until you have seen them in their natural habitat. Depending on our time we may get to places like Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in all of Africa, (If Al Gore is right, and we don't do something about global warming, we may be the last generation to see snow on its magnificent peeks), and we definitely want to return to Arusha.
The sight seeing and visiting African markets are truly fun and exciting, but the biggest reason to come is to experience the love and spirituality of the people. Along with the tourist sites, we have also gone to places like the SOS village, a whole village where orphans are cared for by loving men and woman who treat these children as though they were their own. We have had the chance to visit one of the few centers for the handicapped, run by and extraordinary woman who saw a need and with the help of God started a center to care for them. On our last visit, I was blessed with the opportunity to preach at a parish mission, and those who came on that trip all made up a choir that sang along with the local choirs. We had the opportunity to visit a school out in the bush, where kids were taught in a building without glass in the windows or cement on the floors. Yet the look of hope and joy in their eyes was something few would ever forget. Many people who upon returning home started various projects that helped raise money for these places.
Several people who have gone on our previous trips have already indicated their desire to return on this trip. Many people who come tell me the experience is life changing. If you like to sing (although that is not a requirement), and celebrate and are open to new experiences, please consider coming with us as we journey once again to Tanzania. Again the dates are July 24 – August 3.
Cost
One reason we are getting this notice out even before we have completed the itinerary is because we have found a very good price for the trip. Traveling out of JFK airport in New York, we were able to get a fare of just $2090 round trip. In today's market, that's a really good price. Now that fare only takes us in and out of the capital city of Dar Es Salaam. In order to travel to Arusha, which is near Kilimanjaro, we will have to take another flight. But I have been told that we can book that in Africa, and the cost should be no more than $150 round trip.
Our lodging cost should run around $40 a day which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will also want to give some money to our drivers to help them pay for gas.
In all of our previous trips we have flown through Amsterdam. On this occasion we will be flying through the exotic city of Dubai. Some people have expressed an interest in staying over an extra night on the way home. Naturally that will cost more because there you will have to get a real hotel and pay for meals etc. Still I hear it's a fascinating city and I for one plan to spend at least one night there. If you are interested in staying on the way home, please let me know in order for us to make flight arrangements.
If you are interested in going, please let me know and as soon as possible. Space really is somewhat limited so please let me know soon. You can contact me at either www.graysonwarrenbrown.com, or gbrown1716@aol.com.
Last but not least, anyone who has gone to Africa will tell you that patience is very necessary to survive there. Things often don't go exactly as planned, and the African sense of time is sometime slightly different then our own. Be prepared to be flexible, because the local folks have a saying over there. When things don't go exactly as planned, they will smile, shrug their shoulders and say "Hey, this is Africa". |
